  • Baptism | Българска Православна Църква, Хага.

Baptism Holy Baptism is the first of the sacraments of the Church, in which a person receives God's blessing. The sacrament of Baptism is performed once in a lifetime and is never repeated. The baptized person is introduced to Christianity, symbolically purified and ready to lead a righteous life. The godfather or godmother do become his spiritual parents, therefore they should not be related to the baptized person up to this point. What to prepare: 1. Birth certificate of the baptized 2. Baptismal certificate of the godfather/godmother 3. Large towel or towel for the newly baptized 4. Small towel and soap for the priest 5. New white or light-colored clothes for the newly baptized 6. A sprinkling stick. 7. Bread 8. Sweet red wine 9. Oil or olive oil for the temple What to do: 1. Let us approach the Sacrament consciously 2. If the child is over 40 days old, the mother must be present at the Baptism. 3. If the person being baptized is over 10 years old, the "Creed of Faith" is read, and if he is younger, the "Creed of Faith" is read by the godfather. What the godfather and the newly baptized person need to know: Symbol of faith I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Only-begotten, begotten of the Father before all ages. Light of Light; True God of True God; begotten, not made; of one essence with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and became man. And He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again with glory to judge the living and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end; and in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father; who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets; in One Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins. I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come. Amen.

  • Consecration | Българска Православна Църква, Хага.

Consecration Since creation, water has been not only an inseparable part of human existence, but also a part of its religious life. In the Bible, water symbolizes life, God's grace, the spiritual and moral purity of man. Water is closely connected with God's plan for the salvation of man. Therefore, the Holy Church uses it in the sacraments and rites. The small blessing of water is a rite for consecrating our home, office, car, as well as a cross, icon, etc. objects. What to prepare: 1. Icon, where the water blessing will be performed 2. Bunch of geranium or other green and aromatic herbs 3. Large clean bowl with cold water 4. A little olive oil (about 30 ml.) in a small container 5. Container with raw rice and 3 candles 6. Red wine 7. Loaf of bread 8. List of names of living people to commemorate for health What to do: 1. Let's get acquainted with the Orthodox meaning of the rite How to pray: A prayer for all times Hear the voice of our prayer, O loving Master, Lord Jesus Christ, and look with mercy upon us, Your servants, who approach You with faith, trusting in Your unchangeable promise. For You have said: “Whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you will receive it, and it will be given to you,” and again: “Ask, and it will be given to you.” Therefore, we unworthy ones, we beseech You, do not remember our iniquities and do not repay us according to the many transgressions with which we often anger Your goodness, but have mercy on us according to Your infinite mercy and grant us the bounties of Your unspeakable love. Deliver us from the invisible enemy and his snares, which he has spread along all the paths of life, in order to catch us and make us his servants and unfortunate victims. Protect us from our visible enemies; Expose and thwart their evil designs. Fulfill all our good desires and do not allow deprivation and calamities to approach us. Protect us from evil circumstances, from misfortune, sorrow and illness. May our prayers be favorable to You, all-generous Lord, and accept before the throne of Your dominion the deeds that we do in Your name. For You are a God of mercy and love, and to You we give glory, honor and worship, with Your beginningless Father and Your all-holy, good and life-giving Spirit, now and ever, and forever and ever! Amen!

To approach the Sacrament consciously What the godparents and the newlywed need to know The Lord's Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Prayer for married couple O Lord our God, who in Your saving dispensation declared marriage honorable by Your presence in Cana of Galilee, keep in peace and concord your servants, whom you have joined together as one. Make their marriage honorable. Preserve their union undefiled; grant that they may live together blamelessly; and make them worthy to attain to a ripe old age, fulfilling Your commandments with a pure heart. For You are our God, the God of mercy and salvation, and to You we send up glory, together with Your Father Who is without beginning, and Your all-holy, good, and life-creating Spirit, always, now and forever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.
